Over the past five years, Dr Vricella has trained surgeons in Cambodia to perform pediatric cardiac surgery, thereby created a sustainable program whereby the local children’s hospital in Siem Reap now performs over 300 open heart surgeries on children with congenital heart disease.
Dr Castillo had a dream to develop a small hospital in the middle of the jungle to serve the indigenous Mayan population. Today his efforts allow him to take care of 8000 patients and perform 300 major surgical procedures each year.
